Yay.... Durian season is here again! Being a Malaysian, I'm sure most of us are durian lovers. A few weeks ago, I was invited to Durian King Bukit Bintang to taste the highly sought after 'Black Thorn' durian. OMG...
check out the huge
durian!
The newly opened Durian King Bukit Bintang branch is located behind of Berjaya Times Square and next to an open air car park.
So how do you spot the real 'Black Thorn' durian? Here are some tips I learned from the owner himself. First of all, look out for the black thorn on the durian which will turn black once ripe. Apparently, the thorn won't fall off easily too.
The flesh will in bright hue of orange, taste ultra-creamy, dense and more bitter compared to Musang King. Perhaps, there will be a hint of alcohol taste too. Lol Basically, these are my personal thoughts.
A comparison between Musang King and Black Thorn. Can you spot the differences? :p
There are also chilled durian option for those that prefer their durian cold. Do you know Durian King is the first in Malaysia to offer chilled durian? So creative of them!
Following the trend, we also get to try Durian King's Cendol. Frankly, the taste was alright, but I wish the shaved ice is finer and more springy
cendol texture.
