Malaysia International Gastronomy Festival,
formerly known as Malaysia International Gourmet Festival returns this October. I was privileged to be invited to the elegant award-winning Samplings on the Fourteenth Restaurant recently for it's MIGF 2016
menu review. The wonderful restaurant is the perfect venue to share and
savour wine dinner with your loved ones overlooking the city's stunning skyline.
The restaurant’s was helmed by Chef de Cuisine, Chef Val, who whips out his fine culinary at the open kitchen.
We began our exquisite fine-dining experience with a glass of dry and highly aromatic Hugel Gentil Alsace, France vintage 2014.
Amuse Bouche
Lamb tartlet with goat cheese croquetas was a lovely combination of flavour.
Appetizer
Pretty presentation, the pan fried haloumi was tasty and
addictively salty served with chilled marinated vegetables in season and lemon emulsion.
Soup
Green pea cream, artichoke chips and tomato tartar.
It was creamy and good with fresh
flavour of green peas, only downside is it's a tad salty.
Second Appetizer
Poached baby mackerel served with
chick pea puree, smoked garlic cream and walnut.
The appetizer paired well with the perfect light and fruity Tahuna Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc vintage 2014.
The tangy Malibu lime sorbet makes a perfect palate cleanser.
Choice of 3 Main Course
My favourite main course was the slow cooked tender and juicy cutlet of lamb, served baked stuffed red onion, glazed root vegetables and cherry jus, perfectly paired with the full-bodied Casillero Del Diablo Shiraz, Chile vintage 2014.
The Wagyu beef medallion has an intense marbling with distinctive rich and tender
flavour served with pumpkin with a hint of Xeres vinegar, silky and rich duck foie
gras and thyme juice. Our rich and intense red Trivento Reserve Malbec, Argentina, vintage 2014/2015, pairs really well with the meats.
The pan fried halibut fillet drizzled with smoked tomato puree was perfectly done, served with parsnip & shell fish froth paired perfectly with the full-bodied Casillero Del Diablo Shiraz, Chile vintage 2014.
Dessert was the extraordinary rich Guanaja Chocolate, delice, sea salt flakes, butter scotch and cream cheese mousseline, match wonderfully with the sweet Graham's Fine Tawny Port, Douro non vintage.
The MIGF menu at Samplings on the Fourteenth priced at
RM228 nett per person without wines and
RM388 per person with wines.
